Three Winnipeg businesses received Commuter Friendly Workplace awards for encouraging their employees to make green commutes to work.

Manitoba Hydro won first place for their 46 per cent increase in monthly bus passes purchased by their employees. Hydro also has an emergency ride home program, as well as secure indoor bike parking, showers, and a compressed work-week schedule.

Cangene, a pharmaceutical company, received second place for their 20 per cent uptake on the EcoPass, as well as in-house workshops, showers and a ride home program.

Mountain Equipment Co-op received the small workplace award for their commitment to car-free commuting for their employees.

The awards are given by Resource Conservation Manitoba, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides assistance to organizations to adopt healthy and environmentally sustainable travel options.
