Friends of Uganda works with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help support Ugandan people overcome by the impact of a 20-year civil war, poverty and HIV/AIDS pandemic. Tickets for the event are $100 and are available by calling 253-4096 Gracious Golfing Braving heavy rains, 145 golfers teed off for Health Sciences Centre’s 14th annual Employees’ Charitable Fund golf tournament on Friday, August 22 at Quarry Oaks. Tournament proceeds will purchase special reclining chairs for patients in HSC’s high observation units. The event was sponsored in part by Canadian Footwear. Since its inception in 1988, HSC’s Employees’ Charitable Fund has donated over $2.3 million dollars into the Health Sciences Centre Foundation and other charitable organizations.

Calling all crafters Bake Bake & Blinkets needs your help for their 2008 Child Awareness Event. Donations of handmade blankets, hats, scarves—anything made with love—and new teddy bears are needed for this event October 4-5 at Assiniboia Downs. The event consists of a large craft and bake sale and silent auction where 100 per cent of the proceeds go towards helping to eradicate child deaths from preventable causes in Africa. The new teddy bears are donated to children in orphanages who are suffering from HIV/AIDS. Alongside the sales, will be a wide variety of children’s charities as well as health and safety information for the public.
